Public pushback on a $230 million deal between Phoenix and the Suns led the City Council to postpone a vote on Wednesday.
Council members had planned to act on a deal to renovate the Talking Stick Resort Arena where the basketball team plays, but instead changed course.
KJZZ’s Christina Estes has been covering arena negotiations and joined The Show to talk about this development.
The City Council also voted down a proposed water rate increase, although Mayor Thelda Williams said she plans to bring the issue back before the council.
The plan would have raised Phoenix’s water rates by six percent in each of the next two years to pay for infrastructure upgrades.
To talk about that, as well as the Suns’ arena vote, The Show reached out to Claude Mattox of the firm Molera Alvarez. He’s a former member of the Phoenix City Council, and current chair of the city’s Water and Wastewater Rate Advisory Committee.
