Supporters Of Activist Facing Deportation Seek Pardon From Gov. Ducey

Supporters of an Arizona activist ordered to be deported this week are making a last-ditch effort to keep her in the United States by asking Gov. Doug Ducey to pardon Alejandra Pablos.

The activist group Mijente, which Pablos is a member of, has already gathered thousands of signatures from people who want Ducey to pardon Pablos for crimes like DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia.

This isn’t the first time an online petition has been used to support Pablos. In the spring, thousands of people signed a request to get Pablos released from detention in Eloy, where she spent time after being arrested at a routine check-in with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The new petition’s goal is to gather more than 25,000 signatures.

Ducey’s office did not respond to questions about whether he’s considering, or would consider, pardoning Pablos.
