Advisers to President Trump say he won’t yield on funding for the border wall.
Arizona congressmen from both sides of the aisle are responding to the possibility of a partial government shutdown.
Many lame duck Republicans may be leaving D.C. for the holidays. That could mean House Republicans won’t have the votes to pass the President’s proposal.
Republican Congressman Paul Gosar said he supports the President’s unwavering stance on border security.
“The President is on good terms here,” Gosar said. “The American people understand they want some security. They want to know who’s coming and who’s leaving and that’s nothing different than a sovereign nation should expect.”
On the other side of the aisle, Democratic Congressman Ruben Gallego said a shutdown is not the answer.
“I don’t think it’s going to come to that,” Gallego said. “I think it’s irresponsible for anybody to want a shutdown. It sounds like (Trump) wants a shutdown, especially for a campaign promise that he said Mexico was gonna pay for.”
Gallego said there are better ways to ensure border security without building a wall.
