A federal judge in Texas this week struck down the entire Affordable Care Act (ACA), declaring its mandate requiring everyone buy health insurance unconstitutional. And, without it, the law cannot stand.
But now that the ACA has been law for six years, Republicans and Democrats agree that parts of the law that are particularly popular — like protection for those with preexisting conditions — should stay around.
But in a new column for the Los Angeles Times, opinion writer David Lazarus argues there aren’t that many good options available to us, in that case. He says, unfortunately, when the conversation turns to health care, it often turns political. And that’s a problem because, he says, health care is actually an economic story.
