Good News, Bad News In Arizona's 2018 Health Assessment

From the opioid epidemic, to decreasing vaccination rates, Arizona is facing some serious health challenges.

A new report takes a comprehensive look at where Arizona stands on just about every major health issue we face — and what state health leaders need to prioritize.

This year’s State Health Assessment includes some good news — like major decreases in teen pregnancies, and some big challenges — like the rise of e-cigarettes and continued opioid overdoses.

For Dr. Cara Christ — director of the Arizona Department of Health Services — it lays the groundwork for the next five years.

The Show spoke with her about what’s outlined here including how birth rate has gone down in recent years — while the population of those older than 65 continues to rise.
