Ahmad Suhad Ahmad was accused with showing undercover federal agents how to make explosive devices and will not be released from custody before his trial.
During two sting operations in 2017, authorities allege that Ahmad showed federal agents and a confidential source how to make bombs and how to detonate them on two separate occasions. Ahmad, a U.S. citizen since 2013, is also facing federal drug charges. He pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiring to possess with intent to distribute heroin and distributing information relating to explosives. He served time earlier for separate state drug charges.
Federal courts have refused to release him twice in the past six weeks because he poses a danger to the community, but his attorney argues he should be released because he is not a danger and has been sober for 18 months.
His trial is set for March 2019.
