Arizona Lawmaker Wants Local Hemp Growers To Plant Sooner

President Donald Trump has signed the Farm Bill into law, and in doing so made hemp production legal. Arizona approved the crop last legislative session — but hopeful hemp farmers may get a headstart.

Lawmaker Sonny Borreli filed a bill to move the start date allowing hemp production in 2019 three months earlier.

In a statement, Borelli said it’s important to allow growers a chance to plant their crop in a favorable growing season. That’s why he is proposing letting producers start in May rather than August.

Borelli originally authored the bill that legalized hemp production in Arizona.
