The idea that white Christian Americans are moving toward being extinct or even endangered is a dramatic one. And at this point at least, it’s hyperbolic and unlikely.
But new numbers from the Public Religion Research Institute indicate the drop is real. Over the past decade, the number of white Americans who identify as Christians has dropped from 54 to 42 percent.
