Arizona Chamber Of Commerce President Supports 'DREAMers'

The president of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce says it’s in the best interest of the state and the business community to provide affordable, high education opportunities for DACA recipients.

If the U.S. Congress fails to help these so-called "DREAMers," Glenn Hamer wants Arizona voters to reconsider a 2006 law that restricts access to in-state tuition.

"I could certainly make the argument that way back when we were not thinking about 'DREAMers.' I believe the average age of a 'DREAMer' in terms of the entrance into the United States is 6 years old. They're going where their parents are taking them," Hamer said.

Hamer said we’re now in an economy where there are more jobs than people to fill them. He also pointed out that Arizona has a goal of having 60 percent of its students earn either a post-secondary certificate or degree by 2030.
