National Economic Index Points To Possible Slowdown

A national economic index partially created by an Arizona State University professor is pointing to signs of a possible slowing economy.

Dale Rogers helped create the Logistics Managers Index, which measures things like transportation warehousing and inventory.

Rogers said on PBS’s  "Arizona Horizon" the index is showing much slower growth in November and December.

"There’s clearly something happening. Now could it come right back up, sure, but normally these things don’t. And the other thing is the 4 th quarter piece of this is concerning because normally you would see number go up the fourth quarter," said Rogers.

Rogers said he saw similar indications in the transportation industry before the 2008 recession, he describes the signs as a leading indicator. Although he says he’s not saying for sure there is a recession on the way.
