Shooting Outside Phoenix Motel Kills Woman, 5 Wounded

Phoenix police say a shooting outside a motel left an 18-year-old woman dead and five others wounded by gunfire.

The suspected shooter and a friend arrived Sunday morning at the Pay Less Inn near 25th and Van Buren streets when witnesses say they got into a verbal altercation with a group of people.

Phoenix police spokesman Armando Carbajal says the argument then escalated.

“So at some point during this verbal altercation, the alleged suspect, according to witnesses, pulled out a handgun, and just started firing multiple shots," said Carbajal.

Authorities say one of the suspects was wounded in the incident and was among those shot. Three of those who were in shot were hospitalized in critical condition.

Police are searching for the other suspect.

The victims ranged in age from 18 to 41 years old. Their identities were not immediately made public.
