Los Angeles Unified School District Teachers Go On Strike

For the first time in 30 years, teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District — the nation’s second largest — have walked off the job.

The strike comes months after contract negotiations between the teacher’s union and the school district. A key sticking point in the negotiations is reducing class sizes and hiring more staff.

To hear the latest on the strike, The Show turned to Madeline Will, reporter for Education Week in Washington, D.C.

Mark Brodie is a co-host of The Show, KJZZ’s locally produced news magazine. Since starting at KJZZ in 2002, Brodie has been a host, reporter and producer, including several years covering the Arizona Legislature, based at the Capitol.
