Phoenix Police: Dead Newborn Found In Amazon Site's Restroom

Phoenix police say a deceased infant was found in a bathroom at the Amazon warehouse in Buckeye on Wednesday night.

Acting on a tip, Phoenix police say the female newborn was found in a bathroom in a secure facility in the warehouse on Lower Buckeye Road.

Firefighters confirmed that the baby was dead and that the investigation is continuing in consultation with the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office, a police statement said.

Amazon said in a statement that the company working with police to support the investigation and called the incident "terribly sad and tragic."

Police have located the mother and spoken with her and say she is cooperating with investigators.

Sgt. Vince Lewis said it is unknown how long the baby had been in the bathroom.

“It appeared that the baby was full-term," Lewis said, "but as far as the conditions at the time as to when the baby entered the world, hopefully the medical examiner will give us those answers.”

Lewis said autopsy reports will prompt what direction the investigation takes.

Associated Press contributed to this report.
