Bill Proposes Video Monitoring on Adult Care Patients

After a woman in a vegetative state was raped at Hacienda Healthcare and gave birth, a state lawmaker is proposing a new law to require video monitoring of patients in adult care facilities.

Rep. Nancy Barto said she understands the bill may draw privacy concerns, but she said video monitoring would be a positive for those in dire situations.

“When you’re looking at people with disabilities who can’t communicate," Barto said, "this is the population that I think we’re most concerned about.”

Barto said that a service provider would have to let the public know about live recordings. She said the bill would also take into account who would be allowed to see the videos.
