Arizona State University is seeking to expand its presence in the nation’s capital.
ASU opened the Barrett and O’Connor Center just blocks from the White House last spring.
The university says the projects it houses, like the McCain Research Institute and Cronkite News Service, have been so successful that the eight-floor, 32,000-square-foot building is already filled to capacity.
On Thursday, ASU Executive Vice President Morgan Olsen asked a committee for permission to lease an additional 8,400 square feet of office space in a building across the street.
“This is really due to the growth in programs that being in the nation’s capital has accelerated and so we concluded that this additional space was necessary,” Olsen said.
ASU says the "first full year of unabated rent is approximately $541,865."
The university is considering a 10- to 12-year lease on the space. The committee voted to recommend the request to the full Board of Regents.
