Arizona Nonprofit Missing Homeless Assistance Funds Due To Government Shutdown

The partial government shutdown is in its 35th day, and thousands of federal workers will miss a second paycheck.

Closed doors at the federal level also affect state and local non-profits that depend on federal funding. The Show is covering the effects of the shutdown on Arizonans.

The Show recently spoke with Amy Schwabenlender, president and CEO of the Human Services Campus. That’s a group of different organizations that come together to support Phoenix’s homeless population.

Schwabenlender said the most immediate impact they’re feeling is the absence of a $550,000 Housing and Urban Development, or HUD, contract they haven’t yet received since HUD isn’t open to award it to them.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This story was published prior to the end of the government shutdown, which was announced Friday afternoon.

If the government shutdown has affected you, we want to hear about it. Send us a note at [email protected].
