President Donald Trump and Congress have reached a deal to reopen the federal government, but only until Feb. 15.
Elected officials in Arizona are weighing in on the short-term compact.
Citing a need for a long term answer, Flagstaff Mayor Coral Evans issued a stern series of statements Friday saying the three-week deal is “not the solution our community or our country needs.”
Evans also said that closures of major tourist attractions and the limited staffing at national parks have already taken a major toll on Flagstaff’s economy.
She added that forest maintenance projects already have been inhibited or halted altogether due to the shutdown and that poses increased risks to property and the environment as fire season approaches.
