Scottsdale Sales Tax Increases Friday

Starting Friday, shoppers in Scottsdale will pay more in sales tax. Voters approved the higher sales tax rate last November. It adds 1 cent to every $10 purchase.

When state and county tax rates are combined, Scottsdale’s new rate is 8.05 percent. That’s higher than Chandler and Gilbert but lower than Phoenix and Glendale.

Scottsdale plans to use the extra money to cover transportation projects by leveraging matching funds from the Maricopa Association of Governments, known as MAG.

MAG gets some of its transportation dollars from a half cent regional sales tax. That tax expires in 2025 and work is underway to get a tax extension on the ballot in November 2022.
