Geography may play a role in when a person gets married. By examining census data, INSIDER found the average age people marry in every state.

For men in Arizona, it’s 29.5 years and for women it’s 27.5 The state’s divorce rate is 10th highest — tied with West Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia — at 3.5 divorces per 1,000 people.

Nevada has the nation’s highest marriage and divorce rates. On average, Utah has the youngest newlyweds with men at 26.2 years and women at 24.2 years.

Several states in the Northeast have the oldest averages — with men at least 30 years old and women at least 29. Only the District of Columbia averaged the same age for both men and women: 30.
