New research shows that Arizona has the fourth highest incarceration rate in the country, and that disproportionately affects people of color.

On Wednesday afternoon, faith leaders from across Arizona will put criminal justice reform center stage at an event titled “Locked in Solidarity.”

They are advocating for reforms like reducing sentences for those convicted of nonviolent crimes based on good behavior, and the expansion of re-entry programs for ex-offenders as they attempt to integrate back into society.

For Dr. Warren H. Stewart, Sr., pastor of the First Institutional Baptist Church of Phoenix, it’s less a policy issue and more a morality issue.

The Show spoke with him more about it.
