Peoria Police Sergeant Indicted On Fraud And Theft Charges

A Peoria police sergeant, who also spent nearly a decade overseeing the Arizona Tactical Officers Association, is facing fraud and theft charges.

Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced a grand jury indicted Sergeant John Meck on charges of allegedly using the Association's money for personal reasons while he served as a board member and treasurer from September 2009 to August 2018.

"Now that Meck has been indicted, a separate and internal investigation by our department has been started," said Peoria Police spokesperson Brandon Sheffert.

Meck was placed on administrative leave on Aug. 3, 2018, after the allegations of theft and fraud were brought forward to the police department.

The indictment did not list an attorney for Meck and the sergeant has not responded to requests for comment.
