The Grand Canyon National Park celebrates its 100th anniversary this week.
It was Feb. 26, 1919, when President Woodrow Wilson designated the gorge as a national park cementing its federal protection.
In its honor, park entrance fees are waived all day on Tuesday, and an afternoon ceremony and dedication is open to the public.
If you plan to attend, park officials recommend checking the weather first.

“Check road conditions before travelling to the park and make sure that you’re properly dressed,” warned park spokesperson Vanessa Ceja.
Last week’s massive snow storm left the canyon and much of northern Arizona blanketed in snow.
Be sure to bring the complete winter gear, said Ceja.
“Jackets, hats and gloves, proper footwear, boots, closed-toed shoes. And, you know, make sure that you’re bringing water and snacks.”
The ceremony kicks off a yearlong series of events at the canyon celebrating the park’s centennial year.
