For the first time as president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will visit Sonora, the Mexican state to Arizona’s south.
AMLO, as Lopez Obrador is widely known, will be in the state capital Hermosillo Saturday afternoon to tout his accomplishments and campaign promises. Support programs for elderly and handicapped Sonorans, as well as efforts to aid poor students in the state will be on the agenda, according to state delegate Jorge Taddei.
He also said a much-anticipated infrastructure project would also be discussed.
“We have a diagnosis, a rethinking so that it can be completed by May,” he said of an often delayed four-lane highway project in the state.
That’s welcome news for Sonoran and Arizona visitors. The end date had been pushed back twice since last May. Once finished, motorists will have a new four lane interstate from Nogales all the way to the border with Sinaloa. There are still a number of detours and active construction between Hermosillo and the border.
