Arizona legislator David Cook will be spending a day in unfamiliar surroundings following a guilty plea in court Friday. The plea comes following his arrest in December.
Cook was stopped by a state trooper who spotted Cook’s vehicle weaving on a Valley freeway. He faced a 30-day sentence for extreme DUI.
Instead he pleaded guilty Friday to a misdemeanor charge of drunken driving. Along with spending 24 hours in jail, Cook must complete a drug and alcohol treatment program, participate in a Mothers Against Drunk Driving victim-impact panel and avoid drinking alcohol to excess during a five-year probation period. He also owes more than $1,800 in fines and fees.
Cook apologized following his arrest in December, saying he learned a valuable lesson.
