What Do Home Buyers Want? Survey Says Laundry Rooms

A new report reveals what home buyers really want. And you might be really surprised.

Laundry rooms — yes, laundry rooms — top the list of most wanted home features, according to the National Association of Home Builders.

Its national survey asked recent and prospective buyers to rank features as essential/must have, desirable, indifferent, and do not want. Ninety one percent of respondents ranked a laundry room as essential or desirable. Energy Star windows were next at 89 percent, followed by a patio at 87 percent.

When features are ranked only as "essential/must have," the laundry room leads with 54 percent of buyers. Ceiling fans are considered essential for 45 percent of buyers with a double kitchen sink ranked as essential among 42 percent. Energy efficiency was important too with 40 percent ranking Energy Star appliances and 38 percent ranking Energy Star windows as essential.
