How Policymakers Think About Food Policy

Lawmakers in California have proposed a soda tax and other measures aimed at discouraging residents from drinking sugary drinks following similar measures in a handful of other cities.

Dr. Peter Lurie, president of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, has been involved in the effort to reduce soda consumption in the United States.

Lurie is in Phoenix to speak Wednesday evening at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in a talk titled, “ Holding Government and Industry Accountable in the Development of Food Policy.”

Lurie spoke to The Show about how much policymakers pay attention to food policy, among all the other issues they deal with.
