Sponsor Of New Arizona Tuition Level Bill Still Pushing Measure, Despite House Speaker Effectively Killing It

Earlier this week on The Show, we covered Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers' decision to deny a vote on a bill that would create a new university tuition level. The bill would affect students who graduated from Arizona high schools, but did not qualify for in-state tuition, including so-called "DREAMers."

But, as first reported by the Arizona Mirror, the bill’s sponsor is now trying a different approach.

State Sen. Heather Carter plans to replace the language in an unrelated bill with the language from the tuition bill in a Senate committee Thursday. The process is called a "strike-everything" amendment and is not uncommon at the Capitol.

Sen. Carter joined The Show to talk more about it.
