New Survey: Majority Of Young Adults Believe College Is Worth It Despite Costs, Debt

The majority of respondents to a new survey say, despite the cost and potential debt load, getting a degree from a four-year college or university is worth it.

But while 59 percent of the 18- to 34-year-olds questioned say college is worth the cost, the vast majority of those asked — around 70 percent — believe public colleges should be free.

The findings come from the American Public Media Research Lab and the Hechinger Report.

To talk about the survey results, The Show spoke to Delece Smith-Barrow, a senior editor at the Hechinger Report, where she covers inequality and innovation in higher education.
