National Association For Males With Eating Disorders President: Males As Susceptible To Eating Disorders, Body Image Issues

The challenge of eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia has typically been more associated with women than men, and the numbers do indicate that lines up with reality. But we’re seeing more public examples of men in that spotlight.

At the NFL’s recent combine, University of Mississippi wide receiver D.K. Metcalf received attention for his athletic ability and his 1.9 percent body fat. The average man’s percentage is in the 18 to 24 percent range.

So, how serious are eating disorders among men? What can be done to improve the situation?

The Show was joined by Andrew Walen to talk about it. He's president of the National Association for Males with Eating Disorders.

Steve Goldstein was a host at KJZZ from 1997 to 2022.
