Caregiver Grant Moves Through Arizona Legislature

A bill that would allow family caregivers to receive grant money to keep a loved one in their home is moving through the Arizona Legislature. Dana Marie Kennedy, state director of AARP, says the Arizona Caregiver Pilot Grant has the support of the nonprofit.

"So if somebody did bathroom alterations to be able to make it safe to get into the shower, grab-bars, a ramp, if they modified their vehicle to accommodate somebody who used a wheelchair those are all things that would be eligible for this grant program," she said.

If the measure is signed by Governor Doug Ducey, the state would allocate $1.5 million over the next three years to fund the program. Kennedy says there are about 800,000 caregivers in Arizona.
