You've probably had this happen to you. You hear a song and, instantly, you're transported back to some other time and place you hadn’t thought about in years.
That idea is at the heart of a new comedy from the Arizona Theater Company opening at the Herberger Theater this week called "American Mariachi," and it tells the story of an all-girl mariachi band in the 1970s, when that wasn’t exactly allowed.
The Show spoke with the show’s playwright, former Childsplay playwright-in-residence Jose Cruz Gonzales, to talk more about it.
