The entryway to the Phoenix Theatre Company building could soon be named after a famous Hollywood director.
The theater, located at 1825 N. Central Ave., wants to name its entrance after Steven Spielberg. The director, known for iconic films like "Jaws," "Jurassic Park" and "Indiana Jones," spent part of his childhood in Phoenix.
In 1964, at the age of 17, he premiered his first feature-length film at Phoenix Theatre. A photo of the future Academy Award-winning director standing in front of the theater for his movie debut will be prominently featured if the City Council approves.
Because the theater is a city-owned building, the council must approve any naming requests. On Wednesday, the arts subcommittee will vote on whether to recommend Phoenix name the entry the "Steven Spielberg Entrance."
The naming is part of the the Phoenix Theatre Company’s 100th anniversary celebration.
