PBS Documentary Explores The Future Of Automation And The American Dream

The U.S. Labor Department reported that the nation added 196,000 new jobs in March, with unemployment remaining at 3.8 percent, generating optimism for the overall 2019 economy.

But what happens when the next downturn arrives followed by a recovery? How many jobs will be available, and how many could be eliminated by artificial intelligence and robots?

That’s part of what Elizabeth Cobbs and James Shelley explore in their new PBS documentary, " Cyberwork and the American Dream."

Cobbs, who is chair in american history at Texas A&M and a senior fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institution, joined The Show to talk about the film.
