The FBI has released its 2018 internet crime complaint report.

Paul Brown, assistant special agent in charge of the Phoenix field office, said over 8,000 state residents reported being victims of cybercrime in Arizona with over 1,300 victims of personal data breaches in the state.

“A trend that we’ve seen recently is the creation of online accounts or accessing online accounts where individuals access these accounts and often change the banking routing information to divert the proceeds to their criminally-controlled accounts,” said Brown.

He added users should be alert for unsolicited emails asking users to click on links and messages that contain spelling errors.
