First Phoenix 100-Degree Day Of 2019 Expected Friday

Time to crank up the air conditioning. Meteorologists predict the first 100-degree day will hit the Phoenix area on Friday.

James Sawtelle with the National Weather Service said it's following normal warming trends for this time of year.

However, this blast of heat should be a short stint.

"Fortunately, we will start a cooling trend over the weekend and we'll have a series of mostly dry systems that will come through our area next week," he said.

Beginning Monday, he said the highs should settle around 90 degrees, with overnight lows still in the mid-60s, and a slight chance for rain Sunday night into Monday morning.
