A new analysis of the 2018 election shows Latinos in Arizona making up a larger share of the voter pie.
The polling firm Latino Decisions and the progressive data company Catalist compared last year’s Senate races to House races in the 2014 midterms. They looked at four states.
“Across these states we saw tremendous increase in the percentage of all voters from ‘14 to ‘18 [who] were Latino,” said Matt Barreto, co-founder of Latino Decisions, on a conference call with reporters.
“Five points in Texas, five points in Nevada, three points in Florida and three points in Arizona,” Barreto said.
The percentage of Arizona voters who were white dropped 4 percent.
The analysis also shows large increases in turnout in heavily Latino precincts, and smaller increases where Latinos are less than 10 percent.
