Imposing a tariff on Mexican tomato imports could potentially make the price of tomatoes in the United States skyrocket.
Timothy Richards is the chair of agribusiness at Arizona State University.
“If we look on an annual basis, that will impact some of the most important tomatoes imported from Mexico by almost double. You know, we're looking at 95 percent increase for it's called tomatoes on vine, 70 percent for buying ripe tomatoes and 100 percent for Roma tomatoes.”
Richards says the overall market could see a price increase of 40 percent.
