Effort To Hold Pharmaceutical Companies Accountable Moving Quickly

In a landmark case, a jury in Boston found the former billionaire and Insys Therapeutics executive John Kapoor and his four co-defendants guilty of racketeering and conspiracy Thursday evening.

Insys executives were convicted of paying doctors to prescribe its opioid medication between 2012 to 2015. The scheme involved lying to insurance companies to ensure that the expensive fentanyl-based painkiller would be covered.

Kapoor is one of the highest-ranking pharmaceutical executives to face trial amid the opioid epidemic.
