Firefighters are set to conduct a controlled burn on parts of the Tonto National Forest beginning Monday.
The two-day prescribed burn will cover approximately 800 acres of the Tonto National Forest northeast of Payson. Prescribed burns are conducted when weather conditions and fuel moisture content in the vegetation are favorable.
Residents and visitors can expect moderate-to-heavy amounts of smoke in the area during the burning operation, and residual smoke may linger through Friday.
The treatment area is located six miles north of Young.
