The official release of the Mueller Report re-intensified the discussion about how the Trump Administration has carried out its business and in what ways the Trump campaign is unlike anything seen before in American politics. Part of that is how the president has used social media — Twitter, in particular — as his 21st century bully pulpit. That, for many, has led to less civil discussion.
Earlier this spring, ASU’s School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership presented a conference focused on that. It was called Polarization and Civil Disagreement: Confronting America’s Civic Crisis.
As part of that gathering, The Show spoke with Norm Ornstein of the American Enterprise Institute and Joanne Freeman, a Yale University history professor, about whether the reduction in civility is among the worst seen in American history.
