Arizona's Attorney General Mark Brnovich has some powerful allies on his side as he filed new legal briefs this week against the state of California for what he sees as illegal taxation.
Lawyers with the Southeastern Legal Foundation, the CATO Institute and the National Federation of Independent Business are the latest to join Brnovich's fight against California's $800 tax on anyone who invests in a limited liability company that's doing business in that state.
One brief before the U.S. Supreme Court, accused California of a "cross-border raid" for seizing the bank assets of Arizonans who refuse to pay.
Brnovich has estimated the practice personally costs Arizonans nearly $11 million a year.
Because the state allows deductions for taxes paid to other states, Arizona loses nearly half a million dollars as well.
