Pima County Reverses Decision To Accept Funds From The Department Of Homeland Security

The Pima County Board of Supervisors reversed a decision from last year when the panel rejected a $1.5 million Department of Homeland Security grant as part of Operation Stonegarden.

Concerns were raised about whether that funding could be used in racial profiling by law enforcement. Tensions have only ratcheted up recently since an 18-year-old high school senior in Tucson, who was brought to America as a child, was handed over to Border Patrol.

The Board of Supervisors’ 3-2 decision this week to accept the federal funding came about because Democratic Supervisor Sharon Bronson sided with two Republican supervisors.

The Show spoke with Supervisor Bronson and asked why she had been concerned with accepting the money last year but not this year.
