For the second time this week, a vote on anti-vaping legislation was postponed in the House. The bill would raise the state’s legal age for buying e-cigarettes to 21, but a rival bill in the Senate, backed by health advocates, would regulate vaping products like tobacco.
Rep. John Allen says he’s still amending the bill. He said he’s working with stakeholders, including retailers and tobacco companies, that support his bill.
“Tobacco (representation) is certainly at the table, but it’s mostly the ma and pa stores that want to see this change," Allen said. "They don’t want to be at the whims of a city council that decides to raise the age to 65 and charge $900 for a permit to sell tobacco.”
Allen said the goal of the bill is to make vaping products harder to obtain.
He said the next opportunity to vote on the bill is Monday.
