Six men who were a part of a Cuban crime ring have been indicted by the Arizona Attorney General’s Office on suspicion of fraud and identity theft, among other charges.
The six men are accused of stealing credit card information from customers at Phoenix-area gas stations, then using that information to print it on fraudulent cards to buy hundreds of gallons of fuel on the black market.
The suspects used skimmers at 12 different gas stations in 2018, including at Circle K, QuickTrip, Shell, and Fry’s Fuel centers.
The Attorney General’s Office said so far in 2019, 40 card skimmers have been found in Arizona fuel dispensers.
The office suggested wiggling the card scanner at the pump before inserting a card, and if it’s loose, it may be a skimmer.
