Saguaro National Park fire managers will conduct a prescribed burn in the Rincon Mountain District beginning Tuesday.

Ali Bickford, information officer with the park, said up to 541 acres will be ignited through Saturday at elevations above 7,950 feet.

“The purpose of this burn is to minimize fuel loads in the ponderosa pine in the high elevations so that way if a lightning-ignited fire happened in the Rincon mountains the impact would be minimal,” Bickford said.

According to Bickford, smoke will be visible in Tucson and surrounding communities.

Hikers may check the Saguaro National Park’s social media or InciWeb for trail restrictions.
