Lower Temps Force ADOT To Delay I-10 Paving

It is summer in Arizona, and the Arizona Department of Transportation is postponing their paving on I-10 due to cooler temperatures.

Work was supposed to begin this weekend as part of Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway project, but temperatures in Arizona are in the 70s and 80s. That’s “too cool” for paving, at least for the kind of asphalt used for this paving.

ADOT said this type of work is temperature sensitive and can only be applied at a certain heat level in order to assure it adheres properly to the existing surface.

As of now, four and a half miles between 43rd and 75th avenues on I-10 work zone are getting a new riding surface, but it’ll have to wait until it warms up again.
