Tempe Police Officer In Fatal Shooting Of Teen Resigns

The Tempe police officer who shot and killed 14-year-old Antonio Arce in January has resigned.

In a statement, the Tempe Police Department said police Chief Sylvia Moir met with Officer Joseph Jaen and accepted his resignation effective immediately on Monday afternoon.

The officer shot and killed Arce as he was running away earlier this year.

Officer Jaen was responding to a suspicious vehicle call when the shooting occurred.

Jaen’s resignation is separate from the criminal and administrative investigations that are ongoing.
