About 200 women — and some men — gathered outside the capitol Tuesday in support and protest of recent abortion restrictions enacted in Alabama and seven other states.
Several women shared their stories of choosing to end their pregnancy because, they said, it was their medical and constitutional right
House Democrat Athena Salman of Tempe led the rally, warning that plans to pass equally restrictive abortion laws are underway here in Arizona.
“If you think Arizona women, Arizona men and everyone who lives in this state, that your freedom is not at risk," Salman said, "that these bans are just happening in the South — the joke’s on you!
Advocates for banning abortion say the fetus has a soul and is worth protecting under anti-discrimination arguments.
