Legal Opinion May Affect Executions In 3 States, Including Arizona

A legal opinion made public earlier this month could affect the number of executions certain states can carry out.

The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel released the legal opinion that says the Food and Drug Administration doesn’t have the jurisdiction to regulate the drugs and related devices that are involved in executions. Three states in particular — Arizona, Nebraska and Texas — could ultimately be impacted.

Longtime Arizona journalist Michael Kiefer, who has covered capital punishment for a number of years, joined The Show to talk more about the opinion and what it could mean.
