Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar Speaks About Being No. 1 In Travel Spending

Arizona Republican Congressman Paul Gosar said his office has the highest travel spending of all members of the House of Representatives because he is keeping in touch with constituents.

House records reveal Gosar’s office spent over $200,000 on travel in 2018, much higher than the next-highest Arizona representative. Gosar has long criticized wasteful government spending.

“Numbers don’t lie, but you know the last thing I thought is, I represent people back home. And so does my staff,” he said on Thursday to reporters in Washington. “And they’re supposed to meet with the people going back home.”

Gosar did not agree to an interview with KJZZ about his office's travel spending.

The records show expenditures based on categories, but don’t reveal more detail about what kind of hotels or car rentals the office is purchasing.

“We don’t go over our budget,” Gosar said. “The people in my district love me because I’m always out there. I’m talking to them. I’m solving problems for them.”

Gosar’s district covers much of Western Arizona, including Prescott and Kingman, as well as parts of central Arizona. He won re-election in 2018 with 68 percent of the vote.
